The Invisible Man of Contemporary Art

Liu Bolin is internationally renowned for his powerful performances and photographs that explore themes of identity, visibility, and resistance. Best known for his "Hiding in the City" series, Liu paints his body to blend seamlessly into complex urban and cultural landscapes—turning himself into a living metaphor for the tension between the individual and the state, presence and erasure.

Educated at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Liu emerged as a vital voice in post-Cultural Revolution Chinese art. His work draws from both traditional Chinese aesthetics and performance art, creating hauntingly beautiful images that are both politically charged and visually mesmerizing.

Liu’s art has been exhibited at major institutions including the Louvre (Paris), the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum (Michigan), the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, and the Fotografiska Museum (Stockholm). His work is also held in numerous international collections and continues to command global attention at art fairs and auctions.

A master of illusion and symbolism, Liu Bolin doesn't just disappear—he forces us to look harder, think deeper, and question the world around us.
