Shay Kun is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work bridges classical painting traditions with postmodern irony and digital-age visual culture. Born to Hungarian Holocaust survivors—both accomplished artists in their own right—Kun was immersed in an artmaking environment from the start. He held his first solo exhibition at just 18 in Tel Aviv and went on to study at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem before earning his Master’s degree from Goldsmiths College in London in 2000. He has since lived and worked in New York, while maintaining a robust global presence.
Kun’s signature landscapes fuse 19th-century Romanticism with mass-produced, digitally manipulated motifs—rendered in meticulous, hyperreal detail. This tension between the sublime and the synthetic defines his work and positions him as a leading voice among a generation grappling with authenticity, nostalgia, and the collapse of high and low culture.
His paintings have been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions in major art centers including New York, Chicago, Boston, Berlin, Miami, Tel Aviv, and Atlanta. He has also been featured in prestigious group exhibitions at institutions such as the Shanghai Contemporary Art Museum, Lehmann Maupin Gallery (New York), and Fortes Vilaca Gallery (São Paulo).
Kun’s work is included in major private and corporate collections around the world, including those of David Roberts (London), Yigal Ahouvi (Tel Aviv), Andrey Melnichenko (Moscow), Steve Shane (New York), and the Eileen Kaminsky Family Foundation. His paintings also reside in institutional collections such as The Richard Massey Foundation, Aspen Art Collection, Kirkland & Ellis Headquarters, and Giza Venture Capital.
Highly sought after by collectors and curators alike, Shay Kun continues to redefine contemporary landscape painting—making his work not only visually compelling, but increasingly collectible.
